Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about chiropractic care at Family Health Chiropractic in Austin, TX
Below are the questions we hear most often from new and prospective patients. If you do not see your question here, call us at 512-347-8881 or send a message and we will be happy to help.

What conditions do you treat?
We work with patients dealing with low back pain, neck pain, headaches, hip pain, shoulder pain, sciatica, scoliosis, disc herniations, kyphosis, poor posture, and numbness or tingling in the hands, fingers, feet, or toes, among other conditions. We do not accept every case. After a thorough history, neuromuscular examination, and X-ray review, Dr. Gonzalez determines whether corrective chiropractic methods are likely to help restore your spine toward a healthier, pain-free state.
What happens on my first visit?
Your first visit includes a tour of the office, a complete digital posture and spine examination, and a same-day review of your findings with Dr. Gonzalez. You will also receive a personalized treatment plan. See our New Patients page for a full step-by-step overview.
Are X-rays required?
Yes. X-rays allow us to rule out serious issues such as fractures and dislocations, and to identify spinal subluxations (misalignments) that may be causing nerve interference and abnormal joint movement. As a standard policy, we do not X-ray children age 5 and under, or pregnant women.
Is chiropractic care safe?
Yes. The technique systems used at our office are among the most researched in the chiropractic profession, and Dr. Gonzalez has contributed to chiropractic research throughout his career. We always confirm the cause of your condition through a full examination before beginning any treatment.
How many visits will I need?
That depends on your specific condition, how long it has been present, and how your spine responds to care. After your first visit examination, Dr. Gonzalez will outline a recommended number of visits as part of your personalized plan. Most patients see meaningful progress within their first several weeks of consistent care.
Will I need chiropractic care for the rest of my life?
Corrective care follows a progression: relief, correction, and maintenance. Many patients choose to continue periodic visits after their primary correction is complete, much the way you continue caring for your teeth long after a dentist resolves an immediate problem. The goal is long-term spinal health, not indefinite symptom management.
Can chiropractic help with more than just pain?
Chiropractic care focuses on restoring proper spinal alignment and reducing nerve interference. Many patients report improvements in sleep, energy, and overall wellbeing alongside relief from pain. We have seen patients make meaningful progress with a wide range of conditions through spinal correction, corrective exercises, nutrition guidance, and natural health practices. Every case is unique, and we evaluate each one individually.
Do you see children and families?
Yes. Family Health Chiropractic is family oriented by name and by practice. We see patients of all ages and tailor our examination and care to each individual. Note that we do not perform X-rays on children age 5 and under as part of our standard safety policy.
